If you’re thinking about a content management system for your new site, you could do far worse than WordPress. In fact, let me rephrase that in the positive: WordPress makes a fantastic CMS. Here are some reasons why…
- You can install pre-made themes that you can then customise easily with the WordPress control panel (the dashboard).
- Create your own designs and integrate them seamlessly with WP.
- There are a wealth of plugins available to make WordPress function as a top quality CMS. I’ll post more on these soon.
- WordPress was initially and predominantly a blogging platform, but you can create pages just like in a regular website.
- Because WordPress is a great blogging tool, you can incorporate a great blog in your site themed just like the rest of your site.
- You can customise the capabilities of multiple users and restrict and allow them as you see fit.
- WordPress has a huge supporting developers community which produce thousands of awesome plugins allowing you to make WordPress do just about anything you want. From photo galleries to podcasting.
- WordPress integrates with loads of great other paid services. For example plug in AWeber forms to capture emails and build a database of email subscribers, or use Planyo to integrate a booking system.
- WordPress stores all its posts in a MySQL database which means you can host it just about anywhere. And although it’s more at home on Linux, you can also run it on Windows platforms just as easily. The database makes it easy to transfer you site to another location should you need to.
